  • Description

Roda uses Bush vines over 30 years old and yields are limited to 1.5 kgs per vine to encourage phenolic maturity which results in depth and complexity on the palate. The 14 Tempranillo vineyards used to produce Roda I are located near Haro, the historic heart of La Rioja Alta. For this vintage, grape harvest occurred from the 12th September to 9th October. After a period of cold maceration, temperature controlled fermentation was completed in French oak vats. A vertical “basket press” is used to extract the juice gently, minimising the withdrawal of harsh tannins and solids. The wine was then aged for 16 months in barrel of which 50% is brand new and 50% is second use French oak, qualifying it for Reserva status. 20 months cellaring in bottle followed. 2008 produced healthy grapes with excellent acidity and ripeness. Low sugar levels in the grapes, thanks to cooler temperatures, make these wines lighter than those of other vintages
